Wilderness Family Naturals’ Goji Berries are gathered from plants growing in the Ningxia province of China.
The berries are shade-dried, naturally by the heat of the sun.
They are not fumigated, sweetened, or adulterated in anyway.
Whole, naturally-dried Goji berries are about the size of a raisin.
Though not as sweet as raisins, they are not as tart as sour cherries or cranberries, either.
There is, quite honestly, no fruit in the American diet that tastes similar to a Goji berry.
These goji berries are dried to a very low moisture content giving them the longest shelf-life possible.
Some are actually crunchy.
This is done to reduce oxidation, degradation, and inhibit fermentation of the berries.
How do I use Goji berries?
In China and Tibet the berries are usually eaten raw or made into teas and soups.
If you look for Asian recipes using the dried berries you will find such things as chicken soup that contain goji berries or a warm hot grain cereal that has goji berries added to it.
Asians often make a tea by boiling herbs and the goji fruit in water. If you look at recipes from the US,you will find recipes that call for the goji berries to be soaked overnight (or even for 15-20 minutes to soften them) and whipped in a blender in the morning.
This “goji puree” is then the base for a smoothie or delicious drink.
What about the Goji Berries currently sold by Wilderness Family Naturals?
We were not able to find organic goji berries without acetamprid on them.
However, we have found goji berries that have been tested for over 300 pesticides and herbicides including acetamprid that show they have not been sprayed by anything.
So Wilderness Family Naturals has chosen to provide goji berries to their customers that have not been sprayed with any chemicals based on laboratory analysis, even though they are not certified organic.
Unfortunately, truly clean goji berries that are certified organic do not seem to exist.
